With our Six Weeks of Summer in full swing, youngsters were looking ahead to a buzzing Birds & Bee Week in the Farm Park by dressing up in bee keeper suits and gloves and exploring a real hive. They also got close up to majestic birds of prey.
The highlight of Birds & Bees Week 10th to 14th August will be special talks where visitors will go ‘live to the hive’ as Barleylands link up to a real bee farm and give a fascinating insight into the world of bee keeping.
There’ll also be honey tasting and the opportunity to plant flowers especially attractive to the winged friends to take away. Plus visitors can find out more about native birds of prey and their role in ecology and see special flying displays.
Said Dave Finkle Farm Park Manager “Bees are hugely important to the ecosystem and our Birds and Bees Week will educate and entertain visitors big and small on everything bee related and why they are so vital. We’re particularly looking forward to this week – we think it will ‘bee’ great fun – and we can’t wait to meet all our mini beekeepers!”
The Six Weeks of Summer continue Monday to Friday until 4th September with tonnes of family fun and a new theme every week. Each week will have extra themed activities alongside a full timetable of animal and play activities including lamb bottle feeding, sheep racing, new rat races, amazing reptiles and more.
Next door to the Farm Park, the sixty studios of the Barleylands Craft Village also have plenty lined up for visitors over the summer and are a great place to see crafters in action. There’s also a regular Farmers Market, Italian Caffe and a fine dining restaurant.
