Hatching Programme

Barleylands ‘Egg to Chick’ Hatching Programme

If your topic is life cycles, then seeing new life emerge before your eyes, is the perfect resource for you!

Barleylands are renowned for bringing the curriculum to life through their various themed educational days and have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to teaching children about food, farming, and the environment. Our Hatch Packs offer the chance to interact, care and learn about chickens and see new life emerge before your eyes. This is a unique opportunity for your class and truly memorable for pupils, brought to you by our Farm Park Team! We supply everything you need. At the beginning of your pre-booked hire, a member of the Farm Team will deliver your Hatch Pack which we will set up for you.

This will include 7 fertile eggs due to hatch in 7 days. We will run through what you need to know and leave you with a development chart, chick crumb and teaching notes.

Hatch Pack:

  • Delivery of 7 fertile eggs.
  • 7 egg incubator, with excellent egg visibility, allowing viewers to witness the hatching process.
  • Brooder enclosure with heater to raise your chicks in
  • Feeder and Drinker
  • Food
  • Instructions
  • Incubation calendar and embryo development chart
  • Teachers notes for teaching

Once hatched, and after a week of caring for your new arrivals, we will return to pick up the chicks along with the Hatch Pack. If you wish to keep the chicks, please let us know and we can advise you how to care for them until they are ready to go outside. If you do not want to keep the chicks, we will bring them back to the farm where they will enjoy a happy life, and you might even meet them if you book one of our visits to the farm.  They are always popular with our Little Red Hen days.   If you book a visit to the farm in the same school year you hire an incubator, there is a £50 reduction on the incubator hire.

This wonderful resource is great to compliment your topic and link with science, literacy, numeracy, and D&T.

Pricing:

£255 excluding VAT plus a mileage charge if you are situated more than 20 miles from the Farm.   If booking a farm visit, the price will be reduced to £205 excluding VAT.  Please note Educational Establishments can claim back the VAT.

You will be sent a confirmation email from our education department and an invoice from our accounts department.

Terms and conditions:

We do not ask for a deposit, but payment is due on the date of delivery. Please note there is a cancellation fee.
Incubators are set up on delivery and the supervising adult within the school should ensure they are not interfered with in any way, as this can sadly result in reduced hatch rates.
